Check-In & Set-Up
Check-in and set-up begins at 5:00 PM on Friday, May 22nd, 2026.
Cooking Fuel
No holes or dug pits are permitted. Pitmasters may use wood, charcoal, or pellets. Fire extinguishers must be provided by the Pitmaster.
Supplies & Equipment
Pitmasters must provide their own supplies. Any tents or other items must be provided by the Pitmaster.
Meat Inspection
Teams must show possession of disposable gloves, sanitary wipes or spray, and hand sanitizer. Inspection is conducted at the cook's site. Failure to comply results in disqualification with no refund.
Serving Containers
Each Pitmaster will be provided with an unmarked serving container. Containers may not be marked or altered in any way. Each container is matched with a theater ticket — keep it safe.
Submissions
Pitmasters may enter only one (1) submission per category. No marking of containers is allowed.
No Food Sales
Teams may NOT sell food.
Clean-Up
Each team is responsible for keeping the contest area clean. Trash bags will be provided. All cooking areas must be cleaned and vacated by 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 23rd.
Judging
All dishes are judged on appearance, taste, and tenderness per KCBS rules. KCBS certified judges and Master judges will officiate the event.

Who Can Compete
The Service With Valor BBQ Competition is an exclusive honor reserved for those who have served and protected our nation and communities. Participation is open to:
Currently serving members of the U.S. Armed Forces across all branches
Honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces
Law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical personnel, etc.
Verification Required
All competing teams must include at least one member who is military active duty, a veteran, or a first responder. Proof of service or employment may be required. Full competition rules and eligibility requirements will be provided to all registered teams.
